Course Description

Rug Hookers!  It’s time to pull out your sparkly bits and your casual pieces and walk the runway in your “Denim and Diamonds” at Rug School 2019.  For the second year, our location will be held at Emmanuel Conference Centre in Lewisporte, NL.  The class selections this year offers something for everyone, and we invite you to join us in a great rug hooking experience mingled with lots of fun!

Last year, we had a marvelous time with our Ocean’s Away theme.  This year we are going for a version of sparkly and casual with our theme.  Google defines “Denim and Diamonds” as a phase describing casual and formal put together in an ostentatious way!!  Wow – the imagination is running wild thinking about how rug hookers are going to put their own spin on this theme.

Plan to Mix Your “Dull” Jeans with “Shiny” Gems for a Fun Rug Hooking Experience!

Our rug school site is located just outside of Lewisporte, which is an important hub of Newfoundland and Labrador’s marine industries.  The Lewisporte Marina & Yacht Club has quickly become a favourite of ocean-going yachts and pleasure boats from around the world.

Mini Mat Exchange

The mini mat exchange has proved to be very popular and will be on our agenda again at Rug School.  We had great participation numbers last year and you can join this year by hooking a 5 x 5-inch mat, using any pattern or theme.  The mini mats will be on display at camp from Thursday until Saturday evening when you will take part in an activity that will see you exchange your mat with another hooker who is participating.

Bring your finished mat to the registration table on Thursday.  Attach a label to the back of your mat listing: title, your name, address, and date completed.  Mini mats will be on display until the exchange activity happens on Saturday.

This is a great activity to share our joy of hooking with one another!

Challenge Mat:

Our theme “Denim and Diamonds” offers lots of potential for rug hooking.  We challenge you to let your imagination shine and design a mat to reflect your interpretation of our theme.  Think jeans and leather, gemstones jewelry, sequins and upscale pieces; think bedazzle, rhinestones and old army clothes.

Challenge Mat participants enter their mat without revealing the owner.  Entries are numbered, and selection is made by secret ballot.

Display Mat
With so many beautiful mats coming in, we want to ensure there is enough space to show them off. Please choose one of your small or medium mats for display.  The public is invited to visit camp and view what is always an inspiring exhibition. There will be voting for Campers Choice award.

RHGNL Bursary
Each year a bursary, which covers tuition, is provided. If you need financial assistance and would like to attend, please apply in writing to Helen Bouzane, 83 Peddle Drive, Grand FallsWindsor, NL, A2B 1K8. Applications are strictly confidential.

Fundraiser

Our fundraiser this year will be tickets on a basket full of hooking goodies.  In addition, the popular 50/50 draw will be back.  Please support our fundraising efforts and remember to bring “cash”.
