Loose Women Series – Unique Sheep

Loose Women Series – Unique Sheep

Instructor: Heather Gordon

Prerequisite:

Participants don’t need a lot of experience. The most important thing is a desire to experiment and try a new style of hooking.

Course Objectives:

Participants will learn how to:

  • work with a variety of materials including plain wool strips and yarn, synthetic fibers, eyelash and fringe yarns, sparkly and loosely spun yarns, roving and hand cut fabric strips, etc.
  • create 3-dimensional shapes with loops of different heights and thickness
  • become comfortable with gaps and widely spaced loops
  • create a design by adding details to simple lines and shapes

Course Outline:

Participants will create their own designs using finished samples as a guideline to:

  • draw a simple sheep and transfer the design to their backing
  • hook the sheep with raised loops to shape the animal
  • hook with multiple fibers
  • draw garden guidelines and hook the garden freehand
  • mount and frame the finished project
  • design a small second project if time allows

Materials Students Bring:

  • Backing. Since this project is small you can use a small piece of linen or burlap left over from other projects. You may find it more efficient to bring a larger piece, especially if you are registered for Level 2 or want to hook more of these designs and not waste your backing
  • Frame, hooks and Sharpie pens
  • Rug hooking scissors and sharp sewing scissors
  • A variety of wool strips and textured fibers from your stash. You can use your own or add them to the fiber bundles available in class
  • Frame with 5” x 7” or 7” x 9” opening. Remove glass. Bring your own or purchase in class
  • Non-toxic water-based glue

Materials for Sale:

  • Fiber bundles $5-$10
  • Frames $5-$8

Kit Cost: $35-$50

Include patterns, fibers and detailed instructions. These can be purchased from the teacher.
